Blackfoot Stories: Reading Diary A

The second half of the Blackfoot Stories unit had two main sections. The first was a handful of stories that focused on Old Man tricking, killing, and eating a group of animals. Then another animal would eat whatever was left behind by a Old Man when he was asleep. In the end, though, Old Man got the final laugh by punishing the animal that stole food from him. The other main section was about Kut-O-Yis. He reminded me of a Native American super hero. He was cocky but also wore a white hat. He went from village to village killing the bad guys. He was never afraid.

The story that I will probably adopt is The Smart Woman Chief. The logic in this story is absolutely insane. It proposes that women and men did not know of the other's existence. Old Man showed up to the women's camp one day and suggested that the two groups marry. How would they know what marriage is if they had never interacted with the other sex? Who knows? Anyway... Old Man wants to marry the female chief but didn't recognize her when she showed up wearing dirty clothes. She ended up choosing another mate. I'll probably try to tell the story from Ild Man's perspective. Hopefully the reader will sympathize with him a little. I definitely did when reading the story.

This week is really busy for me, so I'm just doing half of the reading. I also tried out the audio version but fell straight to sleep, which did not help out my schedule at all. I'll stick with reading it by myself from now on. It is a nice option though.
