Faerie Queen-Britomart: Reading Diary A

The ending of the first half of Faerie Queen-Britomart was bittersweet for me. It definitely left the reader hanging. There was a phrase though that is in one of my favorite movies, Catch and Release. In this movie, one of the character's job is to design herbal tea boxes. He adds a quote to every box. His favorite is "Be bold. Be bold. And everywhere be bold." I always thought this was a lovely little group of words but never knew where it came from. I read this quote in How Britomart Walked through Fire and just about wet my pants from excitement. The downside is, however, that I have no idea what this quote means yet. The main character in the stories, Britomart, saw this phrase or renditions of it throughout a castle and was puzzled. She better find out what it means in the next section of this unit or I will be quite disappointed. This may be the story that I draw off of in the storytelling assignment just because I was so pleasantly surprised.

I also admire the relationship between Britomart and her nurse. Britomart falls in love with a knight she sees in an enchanted mirror and swears she will die if she does not meet him. Her nurse wants only the best for her daughter, so she finds Merlin, the magician who enchanted the mirror and devises a plan to find the good knight. The whole story is quite romantic in an unexpected way. You always assume the man goes on a great quest to find the dream girl. It's quite the opposite in this love story.
