Celtic Fairy Tales: Reading Diary A

The first couple of stories in the Celtic Fairy Tales unit were a little tough to follow. Some of the vocabulary was foreign to me and sounded quite old. It was neat, however, to read a story about a leprechaun! I had never known legends of these magical creatures before. My favorite stories were Connla and the Fairy Maiden and Gold-Tree and Silver-Tree. I was a little familiar with the latter because I read a storytelling assignment that was based on it. I honestly don't remember the story of Snow White. It's been over fifteen years since I've seen the Disney version! I was taken aback when I read that the mother wanted to eat her daughter's heart and liver. She didn't just want her dead. She just had to eat her. That was a surprising detail. I enjoyed the former because Connla took a chance and followed his lustful, enchanted heart. This would be a great story to retell!
