Storybook Favorites

Food in Fairytales and Fables caught my attention because of the interesting and unique topic.  I had never thought about The Princess and the Pea involving food, or any of the other tales she included for that matter.  The idea to personify these foods and tell the tales from their perspective is quite original.  The layout of the storybook was pretty but did not necessarily fit the theme.  There is a lot of pink, flowers, and letters with swirls.  This matches the princess theme but not really the food theme.  It would be difficult to find a layout that matches all of the stories’ themes I suppose.  I hope to find tales that flow nicely.

Spooky Irish Ghost Stories was also interesting to me.  My mother’s family is from Scotland, and she is always happy to share stories from that part of the world.  She went there to visit when I was still in junior high and brought me back a book of the local ghost stories.  It is always more interesting and scary if you have seen the places being described yourself.  The picture on the homepage of this storybook fits very well.  It is classy-looking and sets the stage for a spooky read.  This author also uses personification in her retellings of tales.  This is creative and takes a little bit of the scary atmosphere away.

The suspense is building in Fireside Freakish Fatalities!  The introduction is magnetic!  By the end of the page, I was wanting to read more.  The layout of the website was also fitting.  The torn page on the left side of the text made me think that one of the kids in the story wrote it all down in his/her notebook.  The layout and introduction of this storybook are definitely things to live up to.  I think I will try to retell my tales in a real way with real people.

  1. Skye, I loved the storybooks you chose for this post. The Food In Fairytales and Fables caught my attention because I love food. But that is such an interesting idea--I never would have thought to tell a story from the perspective of the food in these stories, because usually you don't pay much attention to that aspect. I also really liked the Fireside Freakish Fatalities. The introduction was so well-written and that concept was great! I loved reading through these stories and hearing how they are told as fireside stories. Great storybooks!
